1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
1 egg
2 tablespoons molasses
2 cups flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon each: ginger, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the first four ingredients in order given. Sift dry ingredients together and add to mixture. Form into balls the size of quarters. Roll into sugar then set on cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 10 minutes.
