2 cups sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 C. shortening
2/3 C. milk
2 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
In a large bowl, sift together dry ingredients. Cut in the shortening with a fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, combine egg and milk, and add to flour mixture all at once. Stir until blended. Turn out on a lightly floured surface. Knead gently with heel of hand 20 strokes. Roll dough to 3/4 thickness with floured rolling pin.

Dip a 2 inch biscuit cutter in flour (the rim of a glass works). Cut straight down through dough, but do not twist the cutter

Place circles on un-greased sheet.

Bake 10-14 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve with butter, honey or jelly.
Can be used instead of cake for strawberry shortcake.
