2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup water
1 stick butter
4 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
Icing:
1 stick butter
4 tbsp. cocoa
6 tbsp. milk
1 lb. box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Cake: Sift sugar and flour together in large bowl. Mix shortening, water, butter, and cocoa in a pan; bring to a boil. Mix with flour and sugar at once. Dissolve soda and salt in buttermilk and add to the mixture along with eggs and vanilla. Mix thoroughly. Grease an 18x12x1-inch sheet cake pan and pour in batter. Bake 20 minutes in a preheated 425º oven. While cake is baking, prepare icing.
Icing: Bring butter, cocoa, and milk to boil. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Add pecans and spread on cake while cake is still hot from oven. More milk may be added if needed.
