Ingredients:
Approximately:
1 pkg. pearl tapioca (large or medium pearls)
Dried seedless prunes, apricots, apples, pears, and/or cherries, in amounts and combination to personal taste
1 box each dark and light raisins, more or less
Sugar
1 gallon apple cider, more or less

Directions:
Directions:
Cook tapioca as per package directions. Pearls may not be completely transparent yet; they will be later.

Combine tapioca, dried fruits and raisins and cider to cover in a large kettle. Cook over medium heat, stirring often to prevent sticking. Add cider as needed so fruit is covered.

When fruit is softened add sugar to taste, and continue to cook and stir until sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate, and add cider as needed when serving, warm or cold. Makes a whole bunch!

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Grandma spread a sumptuous Christmas Eve banquet, usually turkey or ham with many side dishes. As the oldest grandchild, I longed to sit at the grown-ups' table, but I did get to sip a tiny cut-glass goblet of sherry when I was 16. One of my favorite Christmas side dishes was Fruit Soup. I make it every December.
