Mama made this with almonds, sometimes walnuts. She kept this in gallon glass jars. This was a wonderful breakfast or dry snack. Daddy loved it this way. You can put it in sandwich ziplocks for snacking on while on a road trip or pack it in a suitcase for an overnight stay! Mama seemed to have the ability not to have to go shopping for snacks, for our little escapades. Some were not so little though and a snack sure would have been nice. Like the one when we took a 2-wheel drive where only a 4-wheel drive should have gone and all 7 of us walked out till the wee hours of the morning. Floyd was a toddler, Donna was about 5, I was about 8, Jeanie was about 11, Janice was about 13 - and NONE of us wore shoes for walking, but we had to. Mama was in a dress and Daddy had cowboy boots on, and we didn't have any snacks, but the night was beautiful!! Daddy did this to us every now and again - he couldn't help it - he just thought every vehicle he owned was a 4-wheel drive. He always had that "can do" attitude. I don't know if Mama ever cringed when he wanted to go for a "little" ride, because you never knew when that "little" ride would become a "long" walk. :-)
