Tomato Soup Cake Recipe

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 can tomato soup
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c chopped nuts
1/2 c dates or raisins

Frosting: Blend 2 - 3 oz. cream cheese with 3 c. powdered sugar and 2 tsp. vanilla.

Blend shortening and sugar. Dissolve soda in soup and mix with the above ingredients. Add eggs. Add flour, baking powder and spices and mix. If using raisins (soak in water for 1/2 hour), drain and add to mixture. If using chopped dates, add them. Stir in finely chopped nuts and blend. Put into a well buttered 13 x 9 inch cake pan. Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes.
