¾ c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
¼ c. molasses
2¼ c. sifted flour
2 tsp. soda
¼ tsp. salt
½ tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly mix the shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses. Add the remaining ingredients. Chill dough.

Heat oven to 375º F. Roll dough into 1-inch balls; dip tops in sugar; and place 2–3 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Sprinkle each cookie with 2–3 drops of water. Bake 10–12 minutes.
