1cup chopped dates.
1cup boiling water

1cup sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup nuts
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

SAUCE:
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 c margarine or butter
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp flour
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg, well beaten

Directions:
Directions:
1. Put dates in the bowl and pour boiling water over them. Let cool.
2. Add all other ingredients to dates.
3. Bake at 350°, 30-40 min in a 9x13 pan. Let cool.
4. Sauce: Stir all ingredients together and cook over low heat until thickened.
5. Shred cake into small pieces in a serving bowl. Top with sauce. Serve with Cool Whip or Ice Cream.

We all remember this being served at Christmas. A favorite!!! I've served it many times and have given the recipe to lots of people.
