2 c flour
11/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2/3 c shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 cups mashed ripe bananas
2/3 c buttermilk or sour milk
2/3 c finely chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla thoroughly. Add mashed banana. Mix well. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternatively with buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix well after each addition, but do not overbeat. Stir in nuts. Spread batter in 2 greased 9" layer pans or one 9x13. Bake at 350º for 40-50 minutes.
