3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. soft shortening
2 eggs
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 and 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Streusel Mixture
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 T. flour (more if needed)
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 T. melted butter
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine the ingredients for the streusel mixture and set aside.
Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs and mix well. Add milk and vanilla, mixing well. Add flour, baking powder, and salt, then mix until well blended, approximately 2 minutes.
Spread half the batter in a 9 inch pan, sprinkle with half the streusel mixture, add the remaining batter, then sprinkle with the remaining streusel mixture.
Bake at 375º for 25-35 minutes; until a toothpick stuck into the center comes out clean.

This recipe belonged to my husband Jason's Grandmother, Virginia Johnson. I never had the privilege of meeting her, but from what he says she was quite the cook and loved making things to feed her family.
