Bread Pudding Recipe

12 c cubed day old bread
11/2 c raisins
6 eggs
6 cups milk
11/2 c sugar
2 T vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon

Sauce:
2 T butter or margarine
2 T flour
1/2 c brown sugar
pinch of salt
1 cup water/whiskey/rum/brandy (I used water and rum flavoring)
1 tsp vanilla

Beat eggs, milk, sugar & vanilla. Pour over the bread cubes. Cover and refrigerate overnight or make in AM and cook in PM. Set the pan in a larger pan of hot water. Bake @ 350º for 50-60 min.

Sauce: In a sauce pan melt the butter. Blend in a mixture of flour, brown sugar & pinch of salt. Gradually stir in water. Cook constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

One of Ross's (Ruth Schnell family) favourite desserts was her Bread pudding. I don't think she had a recipe- just knew what to put together to make it delicious!! This recipe is from Val Fontaine, and Ross says it is close to what his mom made.
