4 gal. of pickling cucumbers, washed thoroughly
1 qt. salt
10 cent size (3 oz.)of alum
1 gal. vinegar
10 lbs. sugar
10 cent size (3oz.) pickling spice
hot water to cover, divided

Directions:
Directions:
In a clean container add the washed cucumbers, 1 qt. of salt and enough hot water to cover the cucumbers. Let sit for 24 hours.
Drain and rinse cucumbers and return to the conatiner and the add alum and enough hot water to cover. Let sit for 24 hours
Drain but do not rinse the cucumbes and return to container. In a large pot heat the vinegar, sugar, 1qt. of water and the pickling spice once heated and sugar is disolved, Pour over cucumbers and let sit for 24 hours.
The next day drain the liquid and reheat to boiling. Pack the cucumbers to clean jars, ladel hot liquid into jars and cover the cucumbers leaving 1" head space, wipe the mouth of the jars, cap with lids and hand tighten. Boil in a water bath canner to seal.
