Honey Sesame Chicken and Steamed Rice Recipe

Ingredients: Marinade:
1/2 cup water 1 teaspoon chicken base (it's a paste, usually found near boullion cubes in most supermarkets) white pepper, to taste salt, to taste 1 tablespoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon cooking wine 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
Batter:
3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 cup cornstarch 1 egg, beaten 2/3 cups water 2 tablespoons vegetable oil pinch of salt
Honey Sauce:
1/8 cup honey 1/4 cup sugar 1 tablespoon white vinegar
Garnishes:
toasted sesame seeds chopped green onions (optional)

Directions: |
Directions:Mix marinade ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add in cubed chicken and let sit in fridge for at least 1 hour.
Mix batter ingredients in a separate large bowl. Set aside.
In a medium-size saucepan, heat the honey sauce ingredients, stirring well.
Remove chicken from fridge and create an assembly line of bowls: 1. chicken 2. batter 3. sauce
Heat a deep pan with 1 inch of cooking oil on medium high until it reaches 320 degrees F.
Take pieces of chicken from marinade and dip into the batter. Transfer to hot oil immediately. Cook until golden brown and cooked through. Place on a paper towel lined plate to drain.
Transfer all of the fried chicken chunks to a large bowl and pour the heated honey sauce over. Toss carefully with tongs to coat all pieces. Serve on plate with a side of steamed rice (recipe below) or stir-fried noodles. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and green onions (optional). |
