5 eggs
1 1/2 cups Hershey's Chocolate Syrup
7 cups flour
2 tbsp. baking powder
1 1/2 cups sugar
6 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 cup butter
1 cup margarine or shortening
1 cup ground walnuts
1 cup ground walnuts

Frosting:
box of powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk plus more if needed to make a thin consistency
1 tsp. vanilla extract

In a large bowl, beat 5 eggs with fork and add the chocolate syrup; set aside. In another bowl, mix all dry ingredients together. Cut in the butter and margarine; mix again with hands. Add in the egg mixture; mix well. Roll into walnut-size balls with hands and place onto parchment-lined cookie sheets. Bake in a preheated 350º oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until slightly brown. Frosting: Add vanilla and milk to powdered sugar until thin, but not runny. Frost when cool.

This recipe was our Italian grandmother's. It makes a big batch of cookies, so you might want to cut the recipe in half. The directions are a bit sketchy, but once you make them, you will see they are not difficult and definitely worth the effort!
