1/2 C shortening
1 1/2 C sugar
2 eggs
1 oz red food coloring
2 tbl cocoa
1 C buttermilk
1 tbl vinegar
2 1/4 flour (sifted)
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla.
Add flour and dry ingredients on top of flour, including cocoa.
On top add buttermilk, vinegar and red food coloring.
Beat for 2 minutues at medium speed. Then add eggs and beat for 1 minute at medium speed.

Grease and flour 2 8" cake pans.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean.
