1 quart thinly sliced apples
1 c. sugar
1/8 tsp. allspire
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 tbsp. butter
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk

Preheat oven to 350º.

Mix apples with half of the sugar, the allspice, and the nutmeg. Place in a well-greased 9" round baking dish.

Cream the remaining sugar into the butter. Add egg and vanilla. Beat thoroughly.

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add alternately with milk to butter mixture, beating well between each addition. Pour over the apples and bake for about 60 minutes.
