Directions:Preheat oven to 350º F.
Put the sugar, water and butter into a 9x13x2" baking dish and place in the oven until it begins to boil. While the above mixture is heating, peel, core and grate the granny smith apples. Place on paper towels to absorb all the juice. Set aside.
Place flour in medium bowl and cut in the Crisco until it is grainy. Add the milk until you make a stiff dough. Place the dough on a floured surface and roll out into a rectangular shape. Spread soft butter over the dough; sprinkle cinnamon mixed with sugar over the butter; and then spread the grated apples on top. Roll the dough into a jelly roll and cut into 1" rounds.
Very carefully place the rounds side by side into the hot liquid being careful not to splash the hot liquid on you. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top begins to brown and it is bubbly. |

Notes: This dessert is very good served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. This recipe came from Frankie Thompson, sister of Wade Slayton. This is an old family favorite.
