Ingredients: Crust: 3 cups flour 1/2 lb. butter 1/2 tsp. salt 6 tbsp. half & half 1 pkg. dry yeast 1 tbsp. sugar 4 egg yolks
Filling: 16 oz. cream cheese, softened 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 egg yolk 1 cup sugar

Directions:Crust: In a large bowl, mix the flour, butter and salt together; set aside. In a small pan, warm half & half slightly. Add yeast and sugar; mix well until yeast is dissolved. Add the egg yolks to the yeast mixture and beat together. Stir into the flour mixture and work dough into a ball. Divide ball in half; set aside. Filling: Mix all the ingredients in a bowl with an electric mixer. Grease a 9x13-inch pan. Roll out one piece of dough to fit the pan. Put dough in pan, leaving some of it to come up a bit on the sides. Spread the filling on top. Roll out the second piece of dough and place on top of the filling. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand for 2 hours. Remove plastic wrap and bake in a preheated 350º oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool to room temperature before serving. |

Notes: I use to make this coffee cake for breakfast almost every holiday. I would prepare it the night before, cover it up and leave it the refrigerator. Early the next morning, I would set it out on the counter for a couple of hours before baking. The smell was always enough to wake up all the "sleepy heads" in the house. What a great way to start off a day of celebration!
