Directions: |
Directions:In a large saute pan, brown the ground turkey until the pink is gone. Drain the fat from the pan and add a little water, just to moisten the meat. Stir in the cumin, chili powder, oregano, paprika and Worcestershire sauce. Let cook on low for a few minutes, letting the flavors marry. Add the peppers and onions and continue to cook on low until softened.
Stir in the diced tomatoes. Add additional spices, cayenne pepper and premade taco seasoning (if using) for a full, robust flavor. Cover and simmer on low heat for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust the seasoning to your preference. |

Notes: I prefer ground turkey, just because it is lighter and gives it a fresher taste but ground beef is great too! I have listed specific measurements for all of the seasonings but I usually know, by eye, how spicy I like my chili. You can experiment with any combination of flavors and make this your own. I always keep a large container of taco seasoning in my pantry, in case I run out of herbs and spices. You can even add a large jar of salsa to replace the tomatoes if that's all you have on hand. This recipe is versatile and that's why I love it!
