1/2 c. shortening 5 c. peeled apples
2 c. sugar 2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs 4 tsp. hot water
2 c flour 1 c. chopped nuts
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon Topping: 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. cream
2 tsp. nutmeg 3/4 c. brown sugar
2 tsp. soda 1/4 tsp. rum flavoring
Directions:
Directions:
Cream together the sugar and shortening. Add the 2 eggs. Add 2 cups of flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and baking soda. Then add the diced apples, vanilla, 4 tsp. hot water and chopped nuts. Pour into a 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake in a preheated 350º oven for 45 minutes to an hour.

Rum Sauce:
1 stick (1/2 c.) butter or margarine
3/4 c. brown sugar1/2 c. cream
1/2 tsp. rum flavoring
