1 cup flour
2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cups white sugar
1/2 cup milk
3 Tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 3/4 cups boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.
Stir together flour, 2 Tbsp cocoa, baking powder, salt, and white sugar in large bowl. Stir in milk, butter, and vanilla. Spread batter into a lightly greased 8-inch square pan.
Combine brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa in a small bowl; sprinkle over batter.
Gently drizzle boiling water over batter, being careful not to disturb layers. Do NOT stir.
Bake for 45 minutes or until the cake layer on top springs back when touched. Let cool on wire rack for 25 minutes. Serve warm.

This is just as good served cold.
I think this recipe came from a magazine, sometime in the 1970's. I kept it for a long time before I tried to make it because I was pretty sure that it was a trick and would not work out like it claimed. But some sort of magic occurs in the oven and it always turns out perfect.
