1 lb. sweet Italian sausage
1 t. Italian seasoning
¾ lb. ground beef
1 T. salt
½ C. minced onion
¼ t. ground black pepper
2 cloves garlic, crushed
4 T. chopped fresh parsley
1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
12 lasagna noodles
2/ (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
16 oz. ricotta cheese
2 (6.5 oz. ) cans tomato sauce
1 egg
½ C. water
½ t. salt
2 T. white vinegar
¾ lb. mozzarella cheese, sliced
1 ½ t. dried basil leaves
¾ C. grated Parmesan cheese
½ t. fennel seeds

Directions:
1. In a Dutch oven, cook sausage, ground beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 T. salt, pepper and 2 T. parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally.
2. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley and ½ t. salt.
3. Spread 1 ½ C. meat sauce in the bottom of a 9” x 13” baking dish. Alternate layers of noodles, cheeses and meat sauce, ending with Parmesan layer. Cover with foil, making sure the foil does not touch the cheese.
4. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 30 minutes; remove foil and bake an additional 30 minutes. Allow to set for 15 minutes before serving.

I found this on the internet! I like it better than the one I've made for years - I think the Italian sausage makes the difference. Had to include it as an option - it's not one my kids grew up loving, but they may grow old loving it :-)
