4 C. unsifted flour
1 T. sugar
2 t. salt
1 ¾ C. Crisco
1 T. white or cider vinegar
1 large egg

Directions:
Directions:
Put flour, sugar and salt in a large bowl; mix well with a fork. Add shortening and mix well with fork until crumbly. In small bowl beat together ½ C. water, vinegar and egg. Combine the two mixtures until all ingredients are moistened.
Divide dough into five parts and with hands, shape each portion into a flat round patty ready for rolling. Wrap each in plastic and chill at least ½ hour. When ready to roll lightly flour both sides of patty and roll on lightly floured board.

This was absolutely the best and easiest pie crust ever. I got the recipe from Louise Lowry and used it a lot, for many years. It’s been awhile since I made a “scratch” pie crust, but I seem to recall freezing the patties if I didn’t intend to use them soon. It’s a great recipe for holiday times if lots of pies are on your menu.
