1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt

ICING
4 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup Crisco (maybe just a little less)
1 tsp vanilla
Dash of cream of tartar
Dash of salt
Milk - enough to achieve desired consistancy

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream butter and sugar; add remaining ingredients and blend well. Roll out onto floured board. Cut into shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from oven, let sit for a few minutes before removing from baking pan. Cool.

For icing, mix together remaining ingredients until very smooth; using an electric mixer. Spread thinly over cookie and sprinkle with decorative sugar.

Personal Notes:
Roll out thick for softer cookie, thin for crisper cookie. If made crisp, this cookie will literally dissolve in your mouth. I usually prefer soft and thick, but this cookie is great thin and crisp.
