Ingredients:
Ingredients:
5 cups flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cloves
3 tsp. baking soda
2&1/4 tsp. salt
2&1/4 tsp. cinnamon
4 cups sugar
6 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
1 large can pumpkin (not the pie filling)
1 cup water
1&1/2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together first 6 ingredients (flour thru cinnamon). I usually just stir by hand with a wire whisk. Set aside. Then, in a larger bowl, mix sugar, eggs, oil & pumpkin. Add 1 cup water in thirds, alternating with the flour mixture, to the pumpkin mixture. Beat until smooth. Again, the wire whisk works fine for me. If desired, add walnuts. Pour into 3-oiled & floured bread pans. Bake at 350 degrees-75 to 95 minutes depending on your oven. If toothpick comes out clean, it's done.

Schenk Family Fall Favorite

Read what others had to say:

Bill Schenk - Oct 26, 2000 Excellent, Pam! Great timing. I've been bugging Karen to make some pumpkin bread, as we've been having banana bread fairly regularly.

I have a question: is this the same recipe that is sometimes printed on the label of the pumpkin can, or are there some modifications? I can't find a pumpkin can that has the recipe on it out here, so I'm glad you posted it. Thanks.

Pamela McCormic - Oct 26, 2000 It's from a recipe card in Mom's handwriting. I don't know where she got it from. Any way, you have it now. Enjoy !!

Barbara Schenk - Oct 30, 2000 Thanks Pam. I will make some tonite! Best, Barbara
