Grandma loved strawberries. She passed that love on to us. School ending signaled the beginning of strawberry season. Grandma, Barbara & Mom would take us to Rosedale to pick strawberries. Of course, the kids put more in their mouths than they did in their baskets. The reward was delicious Strawberry Shortcake, strawberry pie & jam! We had VBS about the same time the strawberries were ripe so it was a very busy time. Grandpa, Richard, Joe & Dad were busy in the fields getting the crops in. Grandma paid me $5 a gallon to pick blackberries for her when they were in season. That was a little more of a challenge. I had to climb through the hills & hollers. Not to mention the chiggers. One time I took Dad's feeding bucket with me. I was walking through the barnyard & noticed the cows coming. Didn't think anything about it until I saw the bull come charging. I tossed the bucket & jumped the fence. Mom was standing in the kitchen window laughing!~Susan
