4 c. stale bread cubes
2 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar, white or brown
2 eggs well beaten
1/4 c. raisins and/or 1 grated apple
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Beat the eggs, add the sugar, spices and milk. Butter a baking dish and arrange bread, raisins and/or apple in the dish. Pour liquid over it and let stand until bread has been thoroughly soaked. Baked in a 350 degree oven for 25 minutes.
This was usually served with milk poured over, but is delicious with custard sauce or ice cream.

Helene Cronin gave me this recipe when she spent the weekend with us. She said any fruit could be used, whatever was in season. Of course, it was verbal with no measurements, but turned out delicious!
