1 c oatmeal (quick)
1 1/4 c boiling water
1 c white sugar
1 c brown sugar
1/2 c shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c cake flower
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Topping
6 tbsp. butter or margarine
1/2 c brown sugar
1/4 c milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c coconut
1 c pecans or walnuts

Directions:
Pour hot water over oatmeal & set aside. Cream together the white & brown sugar with the shortening. Add the eggs & mix well. alternate the flour & oatmeal. Pour into a 9 x 13 pan and bake for 35 min. at 350º.

Topping
Blend the ingredients together in a sauce pan. Cook until sugar is melted and well blended. Poor over cake while still warm & place under broiler for a few minutes. (watch closely)
