3/4 C. water
1/3 C. butter, softened
1/3 C. shortening
3 T. cocoa
1 1/3 C. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 C. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2/3 C. sour cream
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream Cheese Filling:
1/4 C. butter, softened
3 oz. cream cheese
2 C. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Chocolate Frosting:
1/2 C. butter, softened
2 C. powdered sugar
2 T. cocoa
3 T. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350º F. Grease bottom and side of 2 - 9" x 1 1/2" round cake pans with shortening; lightly flour. Heat water, butter, shortening and cocoa in 1-quart saucepan; remove from heat. Cool to room temperature.

2. Mix flour, sugar, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Beat in cocoa mixture with electric mixer on low speed, scraping bowl occasionally, until smooth. Beat in sour cream, eggs and vanilla until smooth. Pour into pans.

3. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire rack. Cool completely.

4. For Cream Cheese Filling, beat butter and cream cheese in medium bowl on medium speed until fluffy. Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla on low speed until smooth. Fill layers with Cream Cheese Filling.

5. For Chocolate Frosting, beat butter in medium bowl on medium speed until fluffy. Gradually beat in remaining ingredients on low speed until smooth. Frost side and top of cake with Chocolate Frosting.

6. Store covered in refrigerator.

I first made this cake for Ashley's high school graduation. Adam loved it. He didn't know the name of the recipe so he asked me if I would make him College Cake (because to him that was the cake I made for Ashley to go off to college.) I told him it was only for very special occasions, like making honor roll. He rarely got college cake for making honor roll. I did make it for his soccer team when they went to Regionals and when Adam graduated from high school.
