1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg beat in
1/2 c. molasses added

Sift together:
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. soda in 1/2 c. hot water

Let batter chill in ice box about one hour. Drop by tsp large spoonful. Frost with powdered sugar icing.
