1 cup chopped dates
1 1/4 cup boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
3/4 tsp. soda
1 1/2 cup flour
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup nutmeats

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates, water and 1 tsp. soda; let stand. Mix sugar , shortening, eggs, 3/4 tsp. soda and flour and add to date mixture. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nutmeats over top. Bake at 350º for 40 minutes.
