1st LAYER
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup flour
2 Tbsp. water

2nd LAYER
1 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1 cup flour
3 eggs
1/2 - 1 tsp. almond extract

FROSTING
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbsp. milk
1 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. (plus) almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
1st LAYER: mix ingredients butter, flour & water together, like a pie crust. Pat on a cookie sheet in two long strips each 3" wide.

2nd LAYER: In sauce pan combine water, butter, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add flour. Stir until it forms a smooth ball. Add eggs, one at a time. Mix well. Add the extract and spread on top of first layer. Bake at 350º F for about 40 minutes.

FROSTING: Mix ingredients and beat until smooth. Spread on top of pastry and sprinkle with chopped almonds. Slice diagonally and serve warm or cool.
