1 1/4 Cups Sugar
1 1/4 Cups Milk (or Buttermilk)
2 Tblsp Soured Cream
4 Tblsp Salad Oil
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Nutmeg
1/4 tsp Baking Soda
4 Cups Flour
Pinch of Salt
1 tsp Vanilla

Directions:

Mix ingredients in order of columns, blending well. Drop from a doughnut maker, carefully, into preheated 360-375 degree oil in fryer. Turn doughnuts frequently as they rise to the top of the oil, until they turn a golden light brown. Remove and cool on paper towel on cooling rack or tray. Freeze well in airtight container.
Great plain, or dusted with powdered or cinnamon sugar.

These were the biggest hit with the Kyds.
If the doughnuts weren't turned fairly frequent when first dropped into the oil and rising to the surface, they would get little bulges the Kyds called "warts" and they thought those were the "BEST!"
