4½ cups sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 cup cornstarch
½ tsp. nutmeg
10 cups water
peeled and sliced apples to fill 7 quarts

Directions:
Directions:
Peel and slice apples. Mix all ingredients except lemon juice and apples. Put on medium heat and heat until bubbling. Add the lemon juice. Put approx. 1/2-3/4 cup of hot syrup in bottom of jar then fill with raw apples. Cover with hot syrup and seal and process for 20 minutes in boiling water bath.

Peach Filling: You can use the same recipe for peaches, but omit the spices.

Cherry Filling: Omit spice but add 1 teaspoon almond flavoring to the syrup after removing from heat. [This is like thank you brand pie filling].

APPLE PIE IN A JAR: Before serving, prepare pastry for a 2-crust 8 or 9-inch pie. Line pie plate with pastry. Add 1 quart apple pie filling. Adjust top crust, cutting slits for escape of steam. Bake at 400º for 50 minutes.

Dad and I made this, and it's so easy to make a apple pie! We shared our apple pie in the jar with the kids, we got the apples from our next door neighbor!
