3 c sugar
½ t salt
6 T cornstarch
6 c currant or claret wine
few drops red coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together sugar, salt, and cornstarch. Stir in wine. Mix well. Cook together over slow fire until thick and clear. Add few drops of red coloring to make ruby red. Serve hot over individual cakes.

North American Press, 804 Grand Ave., Kansas City, Missouri. 1953. The recipe originally came from Dupuis Tavern, Port Angeles, Washington. The recipe is in the cook book, "The Dessert Book by Duncan Hines"; published by The University Press of Kentucky in 1955.
