Personal Notes:
This is one of Mama's recipe cards written in her hand writing. At least it looks like her hand writing to me. It was tucked in with the Sourdough Bread recipe.
So in organizing her recipes she was putting things together that were used for each other. I know she made bread every week and we all loved it!! But I don't know about the kind of bread she made. I just know that she was very
good at it and we grew up on it and were spoiled for anything else because
of it. That was one way she showed her love - with her cooking and making
the things that she could to fill our tummies with yummy goodness and love.
She always had some sort of snack for us after school each day...whether it was warm from the oven bread smothered in butter with fresh cows milk, crackers and milk, or from scratch cookies or cake. She was ready to feed us and listen to the stories of our day. What wonderful and heart warming memories we have of those long ago days. We didn't have a fireplace with a hearth to sit on and get warmed up from the long winter cold of our Gunnison country home, but we had it even better because we had a coal furnace that had floor registers that we could sit on or stand over and get the warm air very close to our cold bodies AND more importantly we had MAMA with her warm hugs and loving heart!! And always the warm snacks to fill our hungry bellies. Oh, Mama you made life so good....we didn't really know how good we had it til we were grown up and gone from that special home...and then oh how we missed you and Daddy and your comforting ways and unconditional love! It has always been an example to me in how I wanted to share my love with my own family. We always felt like we were special...maybe even your favorite...and you even made our children and spouses feel that way too!!! Sourdough Starter makes for good bread and Mama and Daddy were the Starters of a good family!!
