2 lbs. short ribs of beef
1 large onion sliced
1 cup tomato sauce
1 cup sliced sweet gherkins
2 tbls. pickle juice
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. chili powder
1/4 cup water
3 shakes cayenne

Directions:
Directions:
Can be done in 325º oven or simmered for two hours in casserole on top of stove.
Trim excess fat from ribs.
Brown ribs on all sides over low heat.
Arrange in bottom of casserole.
Cook onions in drippings until tender and lightly browned.
Top meat with onion.
Combine tomato sauce, water and all other ingredients and pour over beef.
Cover dish and start cooking.
Skim fat off before serving.
Should serve four.
