Kathryn had a nickname (Monk). She never liked it, but put up with it from people she grew up with in western KY. As a little girl growing up, Kathryn was somewhat of a tomboy. She was known to climb up trees faster than anyone and let the wind sway the limbs. Her cousins, Earl Steele and Sam Knight said she could climb a tree just like a monkey. They said, "From now on we will call you, Monk." It's funny how a name can stick as a kid. I can only remember her family calling her "Monk". One of the few times she was a little upset with me was when I called her "Monk the Monkey". I ran around her so she couldn’t catch me. I felt the hit on my bottom and was told never to do that again. I don’t think I ever did. Kathryn did like it when David’s family called her "Kay". That was a very special name to her. She greatly liked it. Because of her nickname "Monk," I never wanted one. If Larry or I had one we didn’t know it. Now my grandkids call me "Major" but that’s my name. Major Wright per the US Army. I believe I am the only one on both sides of the family that has ever been a Federal Commissioned Officer in United States Armed Services - Major Randy Milton Wright USA, AR, Retired. ~ Randy |
