4 Onions, medium sized - thinly sliced
1/4C Butter
3C Beef Broth
1T Worcestershire Sauce
Salt and Pepper to taste

4 Slices French Bread - thickly sliced
1C Gruyere Cheese - shredded

Directions:
Directions:
1. Saute onions in butter over very low heat until they are a rich golden or caramel colour.
2. Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste.
3. Cover and simmer for 20-30 minutes until onions are very tender.
4. Lightly toast the french bread slices in 425º oven - until golden brown.
5. Pour the soup into 4 individual heatproof soup bowls. Float a slice of bread in each bowl and top with shredded Gruyere cheese. Place under a broiler until cheese is melted and nicely browned on top
