2 T salad oil
1 1/2 lb. beef chuck, cut in 1 1/2 inch cubes
2 onion, thinly sliced
1 apple, pared, cored and thinly sliced
2 cans (1 lb. size) tomatoes, undrained
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
4 medium potatoes, pared and quartered lengthwise
1 head green cabbage (1 1/2 lb.), washed and cut into 8 wedges

Heat oil in large skillet, add beef and brown. Remove. Add onions to skillet, cook slowly until golden brown. Add browned beef. Stir in 1 cup water. Add apples and tomatoes, sprinkle with sugar, salt and pepper. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered, 2 hours. Add potatoes and cabbage to meat mixture, simmer, 20 minutes longer or until vegetables are tender. 4 servings.
