1 c. butter, softened
1 c. brown sugar, (dark is best)
1/2 c. granulated sugar

1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
3 T. water

1-1/2 c. King Arthur all-purpose unbleached flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
pinch of salt
1/4 tsp. fresh ground nutmeg

3 c. old fashioned rolled oats
1 c. raisins (optional)
1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together in a mixer the butter and sugars. Add to mixture and mix well the egg, vanilla and water. Combine the dry ingredients of the flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Add to the batter and mix thoroughly. Add the oats, raisins and nuts and mix together.
Drop or use scoop in heaping tablespoons onto cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake in 375° oven for 11 minutes.
Makes about 42 cookies.

The fresh ground nutmeg is the "secret" to these delicious cookies. This has been tweaked to high altitude using less butter and more liquid.
