1 cup sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 tsp. baking soda
2 cup flour
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup lard (shortening)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 cup sour milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cream lard/shortening with sugar, add eggs. Sift spices and salt with flour. Add alternately to creamed mixture with sour milk and syrup. Bake in a moderate oven at 350º for 50 minutes.
