1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup chopped nuts
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar, add syrup, eggs, chocolate and beat well. Add dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Stir thoroughly and add nuts and vanilla. Spread in a greased baking pan about 8 x 8 inches. Bake at 375º about 30 minutes. When cool, cut into squares.
