1 C sugar
1 C brown Sugar
1 C karo
1 Can sweet condensed milk
1/4 C evaporated Milk
1/2 C butter
1 tsp vanilla
walnuts (optional)

NEVER DOUBLE!
Mix all ingredients in a pot except the vanilla and cook to firm ball.

Two ways to find out if your candy is done. Use a candy thermometer or the old fashioned way. Cup of cold water, drip in a bit of your candy and if you can roll it into a firm ball it's done)

When done, stir in the vanilla.

Poor the caramel into a buttered baking sheet. Let cool, then you can cut into any size or shape you like.

This recipe has been handed down from my Mom's side of the family going back 5 generations. The first was written and salvaged from a scrap piece of paper. This is by far the best recipe I have ever used.
