Holiday Cut-Out Cakes Recipe

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. margarine (room temperature)
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. almond flavoring (this is to be used in your own favorite non cook frosting recipe)
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
frosting of your own choice thinned with milk (use your own favorite recipe)
sprinkles (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Combine all but the flour and beat for 2 minutes at medium speed
2. Add the flour to the mixture and beat 2 more minutes
3. Pour into a greased and floured jelly roll pan or cookie sheet
4. Bake at 350º for 25-35 minutes
5. Watch closely as edges brown easily
6. Cool

8. Cut out the cakes with seasonal cookie cutters
9. Dip each cake into your favorite thinned frosting recipe with the almond flavoring
10. Place the frosted cakes on wire racks with wax paper under to catch the dripping frosting
11. Add sprinkles if you wish

Paula's notes: After taking out of oven and cooling a little I cover the pan with tin foil and put in the freezer for a bit as it is easier to cut out cakes when partially frozen. I use the smaller cookie cutters as little kids love this size. Also, you can use canned frosting that is thinned out. Paula's note also says, "I usually double this recipe and make two pans. Kids of all ages love these.
