2 1/2 c. cornmeal
1 T. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
pinch salt
2 tsp. baking powder

Sift all together and add 2 T. shortening and enough milk to make a thin batter, add 1 egg well beaten as the last thing bake in a pipping hot oven.

This is very old but very good. My mom made this all of the time for my dad. The directions are not clear but a pipping hot oven really means 350 and until a toothpick come out clean.
