1 peck (medium to small) pickles
salt brine (1 cup salt to 9 cup water)
1 T alum
2 quart vinegar
1/2 pkg. whole cloves
1 small pkg. stick cinnamon
6 quart sugar (10 lb.)
1/2 pkg. celery seed

Directions:
Directions:
Soak pickles in salt brine for one week. Drain and rinse. Cover with boiling water and let stand over night. Next day drain, cut into slices, cover with boiling water, add 1 tablespoon alum and let stand over night.
Drain. Cover with boiling water, let cool and drain. Cover with boiling syrup made with the vinegar, celery seed, cloves, stick cinnamon and sugar.
Next day, drain, reheat syrup, and pour over pickles. Repeat 4 days and can. This pickle is spicy and sweet - juicy and crisp - yum!
