2 c. [4 sticks] butter
1 c. powdered sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
4 c. all purpose flour
extra powdered sugar for dipping

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375º
2. In medium bowl combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Set aside
3. In a large mixing bowl [use mixer because dough is stiff] cream butter and sugars together until smooth and fluffy.
4. Blend in eggs and vanilla extract until smooth
5. Add dry ingredients incrementally and stir until combined [dough will be quite stiff]
6. Place additional powdered sugar in a small bowl for dipping.
7. Roll dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and roll each ball in powdered sugar
8. Place on an ungreased baking sheet [about 1 inch apart]
9. DO NOT FLATTEN
10. bake 10 - 12 minutes or until tops of cookies are cracked and slightly golden
