Sesame seeds, lightly toasted

Directions:
Bring milk to boil, shut off, and add shortening (will melt), sugar, and salt. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of lukewarm water. Add to other liquid. Sift flour into bowl, add liquid, and work till it reaches consistency of bread dough, rather stiff but still manageable. Knead very lightly. Let rise covered first with wax paper on top or plastic wrap on top plus some warmth like a heavy towel or an old sweater for two hours. Remove to floured board, knead lightly, cut and shape to fit cake pan about 12 inches wide, round, and about l ½ inches deep (will rise to at least two inches, nicely browned) or shape into loaves in 2 greased loaf pans or small rolls placed side by side. Lightly toast sesame seed in a pan (they will cook some more in the oven). Brush top of loaves or rolls with beaten egg, sprinkle with sesame seeds. Let rise until very high in pan or roughly 45 min - hour. Bake in pre- heated oven 400°F on base of oven for 5 minutes then raise to middle rack for 15 minutes or more until nicely browned all over.
