1 package yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup milk, scaled
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
3 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Mix yeast and warm water; set aside. Combine milk, sugar, shortening and salt. Let cool to luke warm in a large bowl. Add 1 1/2 cups of flour and beat well. Add yeast mixture and egg. Gradually add the remaining flour to form a dough. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Knead and roll out to make the rolls. Place in a greased pan, cover with a towel and let rise for another 45 minutes. Bake at 400º for 12 - 15 minutes. Add butter and enjoy.

For years, Jimmy and I would get up early on Thanksgiving morning and make 2-3 batches of these rolls to take to Thanksgiving dinner with his family. It was a lot of work but they are oh so good.
